Concept Development, Simulation & Experimentation

As a lead systems integrator,  EADS Defence and Security Systems Ltd (EADS DS) is at the centre for complex systems design, engineering, experimentation and simulation technologies, all of which are held within our System Design Centre. Located in the UK, France and Germany, the System Design Centre includes the capability of concept modelling in a synthetic environment and provides expert services across existing EADS projects and in the development of future solutions. The System Design Centre  brings together diverse skill sets and enables cross-functional and cross-platform groups to integrate sensors, decision tools and effectors in the information domain.

Concept Development

To ensure that all user requirements are identified, a thorough analysis is undertaken which lays the foundations for the future de-risking and optimisation of a programme as a whole.  The results of the analysis are captured within an architectural framework such as DoDAF or MoDAF.

Working in close liaison with the customer, the System Design Centre identifies and maps the user/operational requirements into an architectural framework within an Integrated Project Support Environment (IPSE).  Through experimentation* and analysis, the resulting concepts are evaluated to establish if the requirement has been met and the risks mitigated.

Experimentation

In order to prove system of systems concepts, The EADS Network Centric Operations Simulator (NetCOS), allows complex scenarios to be evaluated using realistic simulations, connecting real systems, hardware and man-in-the-loop. “After Action Analysis” tools provide the required information to evaluate, validate and qualify the concept.
