Newport , December 2006 - EADS Defence & Security Systems Ltd. has won a Defence Technology Exchange Innovation Award for its ground-breaking encryption system, Ectocryp.

A global leader in defence systems, EADS DS scooped the prestigious award for Secure, Robust Communications Technology Innovation Transfer at an awards ceremony held at the Science Museum , London.
The award was presented by Professor Cyril Hilsum, from University College London and the Defence Diversification Agency (DDA).
First UK Government reprogrammable Ectocryp product range enables secure, transparent, high speed voice and data transfer in real time. The new technology provides dramatic savings in system development and deployment costs, and more importantly in operation and support costs.
Len Tyler, CEO at EADS Defence & Security Systems Ltd. said: “EctoCryp is a revolutionary product and we're pleased that it has been formally recognised as such at this stage of development. Replacing the need for custom-made encryption devices, Ectocryp will provide substantial cost savings. Importantly, the platform could also offer the capability for a ‘joined-up' approach to secure communications across government, forces, security and emergency services personnel – a critical advance in the context of unprecedented challenges to homeland security.”
Ectocryp Black™, a high grade secure voice gateway, eliminates the problem of users needing a specialised terminal connection or a secure environment to access secure communications.
Ectocryp Blue™, a High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor (HAIPE), ensures high speed, secure data transmission that can inter-connect secure secret networks across cheaper, unsecured public networks.
The Defence Technology Exchange Innovation Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of UK innovators in transferring technologies from industry into defence and vice versa. The DDA initiated the scheme to stimulate enterprise and wealth, and to encourage closer understanding between UK industry and defence organisations in bring.
The awards were judged by a panel of industry experts, award donors, the Defence Diversification Agency, Defence Manufacturers' Association and Shephard Group.
