Hourglass
Hourglass is a service management system that was designed for DCSA, now known as Information Systems & Services to provide pan network oversight for the Global Operation Security and Control Centre (GOSCC) over the MOD’s Global Communications Network. It enables network monitoring, network operating picture, network configuration and statistical reporting. The aim of the programme is to provide DE&S with improved visibility and control of the communications services they provide to their large customer base.
Hourglass has enhanced DE&S capabilities in the following ways:
By providing a common point for the identification and management of faults on the communications services provided by DE&S.
- By providing the first overarching Network Operations Picture (NOP) of DE&S end-to-end services, enabling proactive management and expediting the resolution of service problems.
- Appropriate information relating to the services provided and their performance is available to DE&S operations staff, key customers, and end users on a “need-to-know” basis.
- DE&S’ key operations and business processes have been evaluated and evolved, increasing efficiency and improving working practices.
- Visibility of Deployed Services and Overseas Garrisons will be available in the Service Management System including displaying their status on the Network Operations Picture.
Hourglass is supported on resilient IT platforms connected via a secure intranet, and the system is scaled to allow thousands of customers and end users to communicate with DE&S support centres using web browsers and e-mail.
